Bowing to public outcry against on-line lottery, the Karnataka government on Thursday directed the Sikkim government to withraw immediately its Internet lottery saying “it is in contravention of the central act and rules of the state government”.
The government said it was constrained to advice the police to initiate action as per law against the vendors of Internet lottery in Karnataka, setting a stage for a move to ban the on-line lottery.
Director of Karnataka department of small savings and state lotteries in a letter to the Sikkim government, the copies of which were released to the press here, pointed out that the sale of Sikkim lotteries in Karnataka through the Internet was in violation of Lotteries (Regulation) Act 1998, Karnataka State Lottery Rules 1999 and the Karnataka Computerised Network Lottery Rules 2001.
